Uzès – First Duchy of France

La Gourmand

Uzès is just 15 miles north of Nîmes, which is on the high-speed TGV route from Paris.

Uzès, although small, offers an amazing variety of restaurants, boulangeries, fromageries, wine merchants, and more. You’ll find everything you need within steps of your Le Mas des Oliviers apartment.

In Uzès, don’t miss the Place aux Herbes, the central plaza, with its colorful twice weekly market. And for winter visitors, Place aux Herbes serves as the hub of Fête de la Truffe or the Holiday Truffle Festival.

For summer visitors, the Le Jardin Médiéval d’Uzès or Uzès Medieval Garden features a refreshing medieval herb bed, near the Duché D’Uzès, or Duke’s Castle and Le Cathédrale Saint-Théodorit et Fenestrelle, Saint-Théodorit’s Cathedral, with its unique fenestral tower. The ring road encircling the ancient part of town (D979, D5A, D982) traces the duchy’s ancient wall.

And since it’s easy driving distance, don’t miss Le Pont du Garde, Avignon, Nîmes, Arles, or Aix en Provence, Uzès is the perfect jumping-off point from which to explore other parts of Languedoc-Roussillon, Provence, and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
